Monumental bookcase in solid mahogany and mahogany with brass nails. It features an ingenious system of five sliding doors. Two large main panels rise vertically to reveal wide rows of interior shelving. Depending on the sliding and adjustment of the various panels, the piece reveals or conceals upper display niches as well as columns of functional shelves arranged across the central and lateral partitions. The entire unit rests on a slightly recessed double plinth base.

André Sornay developed his first patent in 1932: the concept of “cloutage” that evokes aeroplane rivets. This new assembly technique involved attaching veneered panels onto a structure using small nails (“clous”). The alignment of these nails became both an element of decoration and a trademark. This patent led to the manufacture of limited series of furniture that remained financially accessible.
