This large vertical carved wooden panel depicts a female silhouette in profile, her hands resting on the strings of a harp. The work reflects the Art Deco aesthetic through its linear stylization: the woman’s long, wavy hair and the fluid folds of her drapery follow the vertical, rigid movement of the instrument.
This wooden relief reproduces one of the mythological panels designed by Meštrović in 1931 to adorn the Ionic portico of his neoclassical villa in Split (Croatia).
The bronze version of “Woman with a Harp” is part of the collections of the Musée National d’Art Moderne – Centre Georges Pompidou, having been previously acquired and exhibited at the Jeu de Paume in 1933.
