Sideboard

Asymmetrical sideboard in Oregon pine with brass nails. The layout consists of three distinct sections: the left side houses a wide solid door, the central section features an upper drawer over two open compartments, and the right side rises vertically to form an elevated block equipped with a door. The lower section is topped with an elegant Belgian marble surface. The doors and the drawer are adorned in their center with a large circular wooden handle. The entire structure is supported by a recessed solid beechwood base.

Oregon pine was treated in several stages. The wood was first worked with a metal brush to create relief, then stained in black and finally sanded on the surface. The recessed grain therefore remained black while that in relief retrieved its original orangey colour. With this treatment Sornay created a random two colour pattern made up of of long, sinuous, black and orangey waves, evocative of magnetic waves.
