Bookcase with an integrated light

Bookcase in rosewood with brass nails and solid mahogany. The piece rests on a straight, dark plinth base. The front is punctuated by two large doors framing a central vertical niche. This opening, featuring integrated lighting, reveals an elegant rectangular mirror at the back, adding depth. Long, imposing vertical handles with a rectangular section, contrasting with their deep black hue, stand out on the doors and echo the rounded side uprights.

André Sornay developed his first patent in 1932: the concept of “cloutage” that evokes aeroplane rivets. This new assembly technique involved attaching veneered panels onto a structure using small nails (“clous”). The alignment of these nails became both an element of decoration and a trademark. This patent led to the manufacture of limited series of furniture that remained financially accessible.
