Vertical dresser in Oregon pine with brass nails and solid mahogany. The solid Oregon pine door is accented with a recessed circular mahogany pull. The interior, veneered and structured in solid mahogany, reveals a functional layout comprising six English-style pull-out drawers with ergonomic cutouts, flanked by small side compartments and topped with storage shelves. The entire piece rests on a solid recessed plinth base.
Unique piece.
Oregon pine was treated in several stages. The wood was first worked with a metal brush to create relief, then stained in black and finally sanded on the surface. The recessed grain therefore remained black while that in relief retrieved its original orangey colour. With this treatment Sornay created a random two colour pattern made up of of long, sinuous, black and orangey waves, evocative of magnetic waves.
